Paris

23rd April, morning in Paris
Our journey to Paris was via Lyon and the Lyon to Paris part was on a TGV (Train à Grande Vitesse, a high speed train). This was certainly the nicest way we could have ended our Eurail passes, in the lap of luxury. All the dorrs were automatic, including the ones between carriages, which opened as you walked up to them. The interior was similar to an aircraft cabin, only more spacious and luxurious. There were only three seats abreast, which was very nice. The engine was very streamlined, and as for speed ... if we had had wings, we would certainly have taken off! As an anticlimax to all that, we're saying in a hotel just outside Gare du Nord and it must rank as the worst we've stayed in! The less said the better! We very much enjoyed walking around Paris yesterday. there had been a bomb blast in the Champs-Élysées which was a mass of policemen (as was our train and the rest of Paris). We also went to have a look at Notre Dame. We're off to London today, a day earlier than we'd planned, as the Lamontagnes are not at home (which you may already have gathered from the fact that we are staying in a hotel)!
