Chief Khama

Khama, Chief of the Bamangwato.

Khama

Queen Victoria invited Khama to visit her in England, and when he went he wanted a photograph of himself to present to her.

Watson obliged, and apparently made only three prints - one for the Queen, one for Count de Lalaing and one for himself.

Mrs Watson's caption on this photograph reads

Khama Chief of the Bamangwato. Taken by Frank Watson (a partner of Westbeech during 1887/1885.  See diary of Westbeech in Archives at Salisbury, S. Rhodesia)  in 1890 on second trip to Rhodesia after residing in Port Elizabeth for a year or so.
